Texturing tools

I didn't see anything about this, so I figured I would just try to contribute some info based on my other NWN community work.

I use the GIMP for Windows to handle all texture work. I use version 2.2.9 although there are newer versions available:

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

I have tried Photoshop and I actually prefer the GIMP and its free versus selling your first born for PS. :p:

It also has some rather nifty plugins, like a very useful DDS viewing/editing plugin:

a normal map plugin:

http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/%7ecocidius/normalmap/

and a plt plugin:

If you want to view DDS or TGA images as thumbnails in Windows Explorer, these are nice too:

http://www.greggman.com/pages/thumbplug_tga.htm

Lastly, there is a very impressive image editing program out now for free called Paint.NET. It has many GIMP and Photoshop capabilities with a pretty slick interface:

Hope this helps some.

Hey, that's useful. Thanks.

I use The Gimp and the .plt plugin but I didn't know about the others.

btw - welcome to CTP :)

One more that I just found that is really neat - supports 400+ image types. Useful for contact sheets or quick browsing......
